Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Ceramium is Ceramium virgatum Roth.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Yoneshiguea cormacii (Serio, Catra, Collodoro & Nisi) Serio.

Type locality: Lampedusa Island (Straits of Sicily), 35º29'30.43" N, 12º33'50.42" E, Italy; (Serio et al. 2011: 546) Holotype (tetrasporophyte): D. Collodoro; 17 June 2008; epizoic on the carapace of a loggerhead turtle, C. caretta; CAT; 2703 (Serio et al. 2011: 546) Notes: Paratype: CAT 2704 (collected on 31 July 2009).
