Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.

Adjective (Latin), simple, undivided, unbranched, of one piece or series, not consisting of several distinct parts (Stearn 1973).

Type information
Lectotype locality: Montagne de Veyrier (late Eocene) (Aguirre et al. 2012: 317). Lectotype: PC one rock sample and one thin section in box 48-1/116 (Aguirre et al. 2012: 317, figs 31, 35-37). Notes: Lemoine (1928a) based L. simplex on late Eocene material from Montagne de Veyrier and from Priabonian of Calvaire de Thones but did not designate a holotype. [Nummulitique de Catalogne (Spain); San Genesio, Italy (INA)].
