The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.

Type information
Holotype locality: Koritza, Albania (Burdigalian) (Aguirre et al. 2012: 319). Holotype: Bourcart; PC one thin section and one rock sample in box 48-1/96 (Aguirre et al. 2012: 319, figs 38, 39).
