Type locality: Russia: near Moscow (Silva 1996-to date). Lectotype: Goroschankin 1890: pl. 14, fig.1 : strain SAG 50.86 (cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen) in Sammlung von Algenkulturen, Univ. of Gottingen, Germany (epitype) (Demchenko et al. 2012: 283). Notes: ITS-2 DNA Barcode: Barcode C in Fig. 3 (Demchenko et al. 2012).
