Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Polysiphonia is Polysiphonia urceolata (Lightfoot ex Dillwyn) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Heterosiphonia lawrenciana (Harvey) Parsons.
Type Information
Type locality: "George Town, V. D. L., A. Gunn, Esq., n. 1268" [Georgetown, Tasmania]; (Silva & al. 1996: 442) Lectotype (designated by Womersley 1998: 501): R.C. Gunn 1268; BM; Gunn 1268 (Womersley 1998: 501) Notes: Harvey indicated a single Gunn specimen, no. 1268, which should be the holotype and any duplicates are isotypes.
