This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Porphyropsis coccinea (Areschoug) Rosenvinge.

Type locality: various localities in Bohus, Sweden, near Malde, Norway;
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), saturn-red, flame-scarlet; literally, ‘painted with red lead’ (Stearn 1973).
