The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhodomela is Rhodomela subfusca (Woodward) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cladurus elatus (Sonder) Falkenberg.

Type locality: “Ad litus peninsulae Lefevre, Julio” [Lefevre Peninsula, South Australia, July]; (Sonder 1853: 699) Lectotype: July; MEL; 612891 (Huisman 2018: 500) Notes: Huisman (2018: 500) notes "Womersley (loc. cit.) did not include the words ‘designated here’ (or similar), a requirement for valid [lecto]typification on or after 1 January 2001 (ICN, Art. 7:10, Mac Neill et al., 2011)."
