This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Colacopsis velutina (M.T.Martin & Pocock) R.E.Norris.

Type locality: Three Sisters, near mouth of Riet River, Cape Province, South Africa; (Silva & al. 1996: 487)

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), velvety, densely covered with short soft erect hairs (Stearn 1973).
