This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Baylesia.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Schimmelmannia plumosa (Setchell) I.A.Abbott.

Type locality: Pacific Grove, California, U.S.A; (Setchell 1912: 249, 250) Type: A. and A. Bayles; UC; 95043 (Setchell 1912: 249, 250) Notes: Another specimen, No. 95045 Herb. Univ. Calif. (= Plate 29: fig. 11), was collected at Pacific Grove, by W..A. Setchell.

Adjective (Latin), feathery (Stearn 1973).
