Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Lessonia is Lessonia flavicans Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lessoniopsis litoralis (Tilden) Reinke.

Type locality: Baird Point, Strait of Juan de Fuca, Vancouver Island, British Colombia; (Asensi & de Reviers 2009: 213, table 1) Notes: Syntype: PC0062757 (Asensi & de Reviers, 2009: fig 23).
