This is a marine species.
Type locality: Dillon's Beach, just north of the mouth of Tomales Bay, California (Setchell 1912: 253). Type: Setchell; Shallow pools, in lower littoral zone. (Setchell 1912: 253). Notes: Cystocarpic. Also collected by Setchell, at Carmel Bay, near Monterey, California. Grows in bushy tufts, where shallow pools are left by the receding tide in the lower portion of the littoral zone.
