Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Leptocladia is Leptocladia binghamiae J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Farlowia conferta (Setchell) I.A.Abbott.
Type Information
Type locality: Dillon's Beach, just north of the mouth of Tomales Bay, California; (Setchell 1912: 253) Type: Setchell; Shallow pools, in lower littoral zone; (Setchell 1912: 253) Notes: Cystocarpic. Also collected by Setchell, at Carmel Bay, near Monterey, California. Grows in bushy tufts, where shallow pools are left by the receding tide in the lower portion of the littoral zone.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), dense (Stearn 1973).
