This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hincksia sordida (Harvey) P.C.Silva.

Type locality: "Georgetown, covering small Algae, Gunn." [Tasmania]; (Harvey 1859: 50) Holotype: TCD; (Womersley 1987: 50) Notes: Womersley (1987) notes that there is an isotype in BM.
