Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Nitophyllum is Nitophyllum punctatum (Stackhouse) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gelidium microphyllum (Crosby-Smith) Kylin.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), small-leaved, little-leaved (Stearn 1973).
