The type species (holotype) of the genus Predaea is Predaea masonii (Setchell & N.L.Gardner) G.De Toni.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Predaea pusilla (Berthold) Feldmann.

Holotype locality: Isla de Alborán, Málaga, Spain (35°55.59’ - 35°55.77’N, 03°02.34’ - 03°02.61’W); (Conde, López-Mielgo & Flores-Moya 1998: 395) Holotype: A. Flores-Moya; 24 July 1996; in beds of Laminariales, 37-39 m depth; Herbarium of the Department of Plant Biology, University of Málaga, Spain; MGC-Phyc 3525 (Conde, López-Mielgo & Flores-Moya 1998: 395) Notes: The holotype is cystocarpic, with bicelled propagules and is a single specimen on a herbarium sheet.

Adjective (Latin), very small (Stearn 1973).
