The type species (holotype) of the genus Coronaphycus is Coronaphycus elatus (C.Agardh) Metti.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Corynecladia nova (Metti) Cassano, M.C.Oliveira & M.T.Fujii.
