Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Planothidium is Planothidium lanceolatum (Brébisson ex Kützing) Lange-Bertalot.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Planothidium vanheurckii (Grunow in Van Heurck) E.W.Thomas, Van de Vijver & Kociolek.
