The type species (holotype) of the genus Echinella is Echinella radiosa Acharius.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Achnanthes armillaris (O.F.Müller) Guiry.

Adjective (Latin), stipitate, provided with a stalk or a little stipe (Stearn 1973).
