The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rhizoclonium is Rhizoclonium juergensii (Mertens) Kützing.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhizoclonium hieroglyphicum var. dimorphum (Wittrock) Stockmayer.

Adjective (Latin), having two forms, e.g., two morphotypes in the same life history (Stearn 1973).
