Type locality: Central Africa: Lake Victoria, Rukagara, Tararo; (Index Nominum Algarum) Lectotype: [Icon] pl. 2 fig. 15 in Müller 1895: slide B 400042022 in B; valve representing epitype illustrated as Fig. 21 (epitype) (Cocquyt et al. 2018: 43, Fig. 16) Notes: Locality of the epitype: Lake Malawi, near the peninsula of Kanda [Tanzania], hillside North of Langenburg [Old Langenburg], (sample B 520000023). Habitat: on gneiss boulders in the surge zone of Lake Malawi.
