Type locality: "Lake Biwa, Shiga Prefecture, Japan"; (Nozaki & al. 2015: 12) Holotype: FT and HN; 3 July 2013; TNS; (Nozaki & al. 2015: 12) Notes: "Holotype: Resin-embedded asexual spheroids of Volvox reticuliferus strain 2013-0703-VO2 (TNS-AL-58912), deposited in TNS (Department of Botany, National Museum of Nature and Science). This strain is available as NIES-3782 from the Microbial Culture Collection at National Institute for Environmental Studies (Kasai et al. 2009). Strains examined: 2013-0703-VO1, 2013-0703-VO2, 2013-0703-VO3, VO123-F1-6, VO123-F1-7, UTEX 1890, UTEX 1891 and UTEX 2907 (S1 Table)."
