Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Peridinium is Peridinium cinctum (O.F.Müller) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chimonodinium lomnickii var. wierzejskii (Woloszynska) S.C.Craveiro, A.J.Calado, Daugbjerg, Gert Hansen & Moestrup.

Type locality: in bog near Zakopane, Poland; (Woloszynska 1916: 269) Holotype: F. Lilienfeld & T. Wilczynski s.n.; August 1912; (Kretschmann & al. 2022: 418) Notes: Corresponds to epitype of Chimonodinium lomnickii var. wierzwjskii.
