The type species (holotype) of the genus Dasya is Dasya pedicellata (C.Agardh) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dasya extensa Sonder ex Kützing.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), villous, shaggy with farily long soft straight not interwoven ascending hairs (Stearn 1973).
