This is a marine species.

Habitat
Common in the mid eulittoral of calm to moderately rough waters (Womersley 1994: 41).

Type information
Type locality: Bunbury, Western Australia, Australia (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 93). Lectotype: T. Levring; 21 July 1948 ; littoral basalt rocks. GB (Herb. Levring) (Sutherland et al. 2011: 1139). Notes: This type locality was first described by Womersley & Conway (1975: 63) (Silva et al., 1996) Index Nominum Algarum cites type locality as "Australia: Western Australia (Bunbury; Point Peron; Cottesloe Reef); South Australia (Kangaroo I., Pelican Lagoon)." Womersley (1994: 41) notes that there is an isotype located in AD (A42700).
