The type species (lectotype) of the genus Conferva is Conferva rupestris Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ulva torta (Mertens) Trevisan.

Type locality: Norderney, East Frisian Islands, Germany; (Silva & al. 1996: 739) Lectotype: (Bliding 1963: fig. 17g) Notes: Bliding (1963, fig. 17g) illustrates the lectotype.

Origin of Species Name
Participle A (Latin), twisted (Stearn 1973).
