Type Species
The type species (type conserved) of the genus Rhodochorton is Rhodochorton purpureum (Lightfoot) Rosenvinge.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Colaconema sinicola (E.Y.Dawson) J.N.Norris.

Type Information
Type locality: Isla Turner, near Isla Tiburón, Sonora, Mexico; Holotype: AHF; Dawson 739-40 (slides 029, 032, 033) (Dawson 1953: 26) Notes: Dawson (1944: 256) notes that the type specimen (D. 739) was collected on 18 July 1940, that it was found on Dictyota and that it is located in Herb. AHF no. 17.
