Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Eucheuma is Eucheuma spinosum J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Kappaphycus procrusteanus (Kraft) L.M.Liao.
Type Information
Type locality: Semirara Islands of the northern Sulu Sea; (Kraft 1970: 215) Holotype: BISH; Kraft 960 (Kraft 1970: 215) Notes: Kraft (1970: 215) notes that the original five specimens bear Kraft No. 960: four are tetrasporic; the fifth thallus possesses mature cystocarps and is designated as the holotype.
