The type species (holotype) of the genus Haliseris is Haliseris polypodioides (A.P.de Candolle) C.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyopteris divaricata (Okamura) Okamura.

Adjective (Latin), divaricate, spreading at a wide angle (Stearn 1973).
