Type locality: Victor Harbor, South Australia, Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 186) Holotype: Clark; 30 December 1981; 6 m deep; AD; A52844 (Womersley 1994: 227) Notes: Womersley (1994: 227) notes that are isotypes ("Marine Algae of southern Australia" No. 238) distributed to MEL, NSW, PERTH, UC, BM, PC, L, LD and other herbaria.

Adjective (Latin), dichotomous, having divisions always in pairs (Stearn 1973).

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Occurs on Amphibolis, probably anywhere within the distribution of this seagrass, in areas of moderate water movement; usually confined to the lower stems in lower light intensity within the leaf canopy (Womersley 1994: 228).
