This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cladophora subsimplex Kützing
Lectotype locality: Hermite Island, Cape Horn, Chile (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 782). Notes: Silva et al. recommend consulting van den Hoek & Womersley (1984: 193) for further information regarding the lectotype locality of this species.
