Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Haliseris is Haliseris polypodioides (A.P.de Candolle) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyopteris dichotoma (Kuntze) O.Schmidt.

Type locality: "Cap der guten Hoffnung, von Drège" [Cape of Good hope but actually mouth of Omsamculo (Umzimkulu) River, Natal, South Africa]; (Suhr 1840: 259) Notes: See Drège (1843: 156) for details of the type locality.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), dichotomous, having divisions always in pairs (Stearn 1973).
