The type species (holotype) of the genus Haliseris is Haliseris polypodioides (A.P.de Candolle) C.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyopteris dichotoma (Kuntze) O.Schmidt.

Adjective (Latin), dichotomous, having divisions always in pairs (Stearn 1973).
