Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Laurencia is Laurencia obtusa (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Type locality: Makapuu Point, O'ahu, Hawai'i; (Abbott 1996: 150) Lectotype: BISH; 1070276 (Metti 2017: 132) Notes: Metti (2017: 132) notes that "Unfortunately the holotype of Laurencia mcdermidiae (BISH634743) has been lost, along with the isotypes. However, one paratype BISH1070276 (Fig. 3) and two topotypes (BISH1070275 and BISH1070274) exist. The paratype specimen (BISH1070276) is lectotypified here to replace the missing type, according to the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants (art 9.12)."
