Type locality: "Caput bonae spei", (eastern Cape Province, South Africa); (Silva & al. 1996: 863) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting P.Silva (1959: 142) for more information on the type locality of this species.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), tomentose, i.e., thickly and evenly covered with short more or less adpressed curled or curved matted hairs (Stearn 1973).
