The type species (holotype) of the genus Suhria is Suhria vittata (Linnaeus) Endlicher.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gelidium japonicum (Harvey) Okamura.

Type Information
Type locality: Shimoda; (Masuda & al. 1995: 200) Lectotype: C. Wright; TCD; (Masuda & al. 1995: 200, fig. 33) Notes: Original collection locality of the lectotype specimen is probably Shimoda, where the species grows abundantly on rocks from the lower intertidal to the upper subtidal zone (Masuda et al. 1995: 200).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), pertaining to Japan (Stearn 1973).
