Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Neopolyporolithon arcticum (Kjellman) P.W.Gabrielson, S.C.Lindstrom & Hughey.

Type locality: Uddebay, east coast of Novaya Zemlya, western Kara Sea; (Athanasiadis 2008: 223) Lectotype: F.R. Kjellman; September 1875; UPS; sine numero (Athanasiadis 2008: 223) Notes: Lectotype designated by A. Athanasiadis (2001: 94, figs 1, 2). Paratype at TRH B18-2593 (Woelkering et al. 2005: 349).

Adjective (Latin), of or pertaining to the Arctic (Stearn 1973).
