Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Zonaria is Zonaria flava C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Homoeostrichus sinclairii (J.D.Hooker & Harvey) J.Agardh.

Type Information
Type locality: "New Zealand, Dr Sinclair" ; (Hooker & Harvey 1845: 530) Notes: Womersley (1987: 243) notes that the type is recorded as from the Bay of Islands, New Zealand (Sinclair), but "probably from" south eastern Australia (see Womersley 1967: 227), and there is "type material" in TCD and K [now at BM].
