This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Stictyosiphon lofotensis (Foslie) Jaasund.

Type locality: Borge, Lofoten; (Athanasiadis 1996: 185) Type: TRH?; Notes: In a pool with brackish water, connected to the open sea by a narrow and shallow stream 2 km long (Jaasund, 1965: 83).

Adjective (Latin), twisted, winding, spiral (Smith & Lockwood 1933).
