This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.
Type locality: San Jose del Cabo, Baja California, Mexico (Dawson 1962: 23). Holotype: 4 August 1932; epiphytic, at a depth of 37 m.. UC 2056072; CAS236524 (J. T. Howell 613) (Athanasiadis 1996: 119).
This species is considered to have been introduced into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 131), probably by shipping, being first found at Sicily, Italy prior to 1980; it is now widespread in Italy. - (4 Nov 2015) - M.D. Guiry
