Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Gloiopeltis is Fucus tenax Turner.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gloiopeltis furcata (Postels & Ruprecht) J.Agardh.

Syntype localities: "Japan (Dr. Bahington): Hakddadi and Straits of Sangar." [Hakodate, Hokkaido, and the Tsugaru Straits]; (Masuda & al. 1995: 195) Lectotype (cystocarpic): Dr Babington; TCD; (Masuda & al. 1995: 195, fig. 13 (right -hand specimen)) Notes: The type locality of the lectotype is unknown.
