The type species (holotype) of the genus Phyllophora is Phyllophora rubens (Linnaeus) Greville.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ptilophora diversifolia (Suhr) Papenfuss.

Type locality: "Cappflanze von Drège" [apparently between the Omtendo (Umtentu) river, Transkei and the Omsamculo (Umzimkulu) River, Natal]; (Suhr 1840: 262) Notes: See Drège (1843: 155) for precise type locality.
