The type species (holotype) of the genus Dasyopsis is Dasyopsis plana (C.Agardh) Zanardini ex Falkenberg.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dasya plumosa Harvey & Bailey.

Adjective (Latin), dense (Stearn 1973).
