The type species (holotype) of the genus Mastophora is Mastophora licheniformis Decaisne.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Mastophoropsis canaliculata (Harvey) Woelkerling.

Type locality: Unspecified locality in Tasmania; (Womersley 1996: 175) Lectotype: TCD; sine numero (Womersley 1996: 175) Notes: Designated by Woekerling (1978: 211); depicted in Woelkerling (1978: 212, fig. 1).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), canaliculate, with a longitudinal channel or groove (Stearn 1973).
