The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hirsutithallia angustata (Hooker f. & Harvey) Wollaston & Womersley.

Origin of Species Name
Participle A (Latin), narrowed (Sreenivasa Rao 1965).
