Type locality: near Wellington, Island Bay, North island, New Zealand (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 226). Lectotype: W.A. Setchell; 1904; uppermost sublittoral. TRH B1-1609 (Fuertes Lasala & Gómez-Menor, 1981: 226).
