The type species (holotype) of the genus Pringsheimia is Pringsheimia scutata Reinke.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ulvella marchantiae (Setchell & N.L.Gardner) R.Nielsen, C.J.O'Kelly & B Wysor.

Type locality: La Paz, Lower California, Mexico [Mexico: Baja California Sur: La Paz (INA)]; (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 720) Holotype: Marchant No. 68x; May; Growing on various species of Laurencia; (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 720) Notes: The authors do not give a herbarium location for the type. Type: CAS (in UC); collected by Dr and Mrs Marchant in 1917 (INA). Holotype: UC #221049 (Nielsen et al. 2013: 51)
