The type species (lectotype) of the genus Laurencia is Laurencia obtusa (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Laurencia filiformis (C.Agardh) Montagne.

Type locality: Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 509) Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Saito & Womersley (1974: 834).
