The type species (lectotype) of the genus Areschougia is Areschougia laurencia (Hooker f. & Harvey) Harvey.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Nizymenia conferta (Harvey) Chiovitti, G.W.Saunders & Kraft.

Type locality: Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 325) Holotype ?: Harvey; TCD; Notes: Womersley (1994: 360) gives the following data for the type: Type from W. Aust. (Harvey, Trav. set 173 from Rottnest I.?); holotypes? in TCD.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), ligulate (Stearn 1973).

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Appears to be a deep-water alga on rough-water coasts (Womersley 1996: 360).
