Type locality: "In statione ut apparet ex prothalliis filicuin aliisque immixtis, humida sylvatica." [presumably Japan]; (Suringar 1867: 258)Algae immixtae : Liparogyra circularis ehr., Sirosiphon vermicularis n. sp. et Bulbotrichia botryoides kg. [Mixed algae: [with] Liparogyra circularis ehr., Sirosiphon vermicularis n. sp. and Bulbotrichia botryoides kg.]; Notes: The type locality for Sirosiphon vermicularis is 'in terra humida Iaponiae' [In the humid land of Japan] p. 257. A similar locality is given for Bulbotrichia botryoides p. 258.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), tomentose, i.e., thickly and evenly covered with short more or less adpressed curled or curved matted hairs (Stearn 1973).
