Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Antithamnion is Antithamnion cruciatum (C.Agardh) Nägeli.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Antithamnion kylinii N.L.Gardner.

Type locality: 9 Mile Reef, Sodwana, Natal, South Africa; (Silva & al. 1996: 379) Type: J. Dench; 10 May 1985; On Galaxaura sp. growing with Dasya sp. and Heterosiphonia sp., 15-20 m depth; Herbarium of the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg; (Norris 1987: 26, 27) Notes: The type specimen, NAT3021, is on a slide in the Herbarium of the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg (NU-009327), slide no. 2367.
