This is a marine species.

Type information
Type locality: "Tanegasima, Japan." [Tanega-shima, Osumi-shoto, Japan] (Harvey 1860: 331). Lectotype: C. Wright; TCD (Masuda et al. 1995: 201, fig. 34). Notes: Masuda et al. (1995: 201) note that two incomplete specimens attached to a single herbarium sheet are preserved in TCD and designated as 'type'. This typification was made by a person or persons unknown, but must be treated as a lectotypification as there is the possibility that some duplicated specimens are preserved in other harbaria.
