The type species (lectotype) of the genus Herposiphonia is Herposiphonia tenella (C.Agardh) Ambronn.

Nomenclatural notes
This species was introduced accidentally, probably via oysters from Japan, into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 199), being first found in the Etang de Thau (France) in 1997 from which it does not appear to have spread. - (5 Nov 2015) - M.D. Guiry
